Assistant Residential Director

Responsibilities

Directly manage daily operations of adult residential housing, ensuring consistent structure, safety, and accountability
Ensure adherence to house rules, resident supervision standards, and operational schedules
Oversee admissions readiness, room assignments, discharges, and bed utilization
Maintain operational continuity across all shifts in a 24/7 environment
Provide direct supervision to residential supervisors, lead staff, and support personnel
Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and shift coverage to meet operational and regulatory requirements
Address call-outs, attendance issues, and staffing shortages in real time
Conduct regular staff meetings, shift briefings, and performance check-ins
Enforce company HR policies, employee handbook standards, and code of conduct
Address employee performance issues, behavioral concerns, and policy violations
Complete disciplinary documentation, coaching records, and corrective action plans in coordination with HR
Support employee onboarding, training compliance, and ongoing competency requirements
Monitor and manage overtime, timekeeping accuracy, and labor cost controls
Ensure full compliance with state licensing, accreditation, and housing regulations
Oversee incident response, investigation, documentation, and corrective follow-up
Ensure completion of safety checks, facility logs, and required operational documentation
Enforce emergency preparedness protocols and resident safety procedures
Oversee cleanliness, maintenance, and safety of residential housing units
Coordinate with maintenance, vendors, and property management as needed
Monitor inventory, supplies, and housing assets to ensure operational readiness
Identify facility risks and escalate repair or safety concerns promptly
Serve as the primary operational liaison between residential housing, clinical teams, admissions, HR, and leadership
Communicate operational challenges, staffing needs, and risk concerns clearly and promptly
Participate in leadership, operations, and compliance meetings
Track and report on staffing ratios, attendance, overtime, incidents, and operational metrics
Support audits, inspections, and corrective action plans
Provide leadership with regular operational updates and recommendations

Required

Strong working knowledge of HR policies, employee relations, and performance management
Proven experience managing staff schedules, attendance, and labor costs
Knowledge of adult residential housing operations and regulatory compliance
Ability to lead with authority, consistency, and fairness
Excellent documentation, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to manage conflict, enforce standards, and make decisive operational decisions
Proficiency with scheduling systems, HRIS/timekeeping platforms, and EHRs
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations
Ability to remain physically active in a residential environment
Ability to respond to emergencies and manage high-stress situations calmly
Knowledge of geriatric mental health, including age-related cognitive, behavioral, and functional considerations in residential settings
Knowledge of supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health conditions
Knowledge of providing services to individuals with sensory disabilities, including Deaf and Hard of Hearing mental health populations
Understanding of reasonable accommodations, accessibility requirements, and inclusive service delivery
Awareness of trauma-informed, person-centered, and recovery-oriented approaches when working with diverse adult populations
Ability to ensure safety, dignity, and compliance while meeting the unique operational needs of specialized populations
