Responsibilities
Own/Lead development of new/innovative manufacturing processes from proof of concept through to full scale production that enable improved battery performance and/or cost
Drive ramp of new production lines by characterizing baseline performance and capability of each system and drive actions to maintain or improve performance as measured by product quality and tool availability
Lead product design for manufacturability (DFM), DFMEA
Develop and manage PFMEA, DFMEA risk assessments to prioritize process improvement projects and ensure adequate metrology and controls are in place
Drive root cause analysis through process and equipment expertise, derive & execute DOE’s accordingly, characterize boundary conditions and optimize process for manufacturability and quality
Work independently and with vendors to build Proof of principle tooling/fixturing for dev, root cause of failures, propose design or component changes, and implement and validate equipment modifications
Oversee equipment installation and coordinate with building and utilities team
Analyse production with statistical software (JMP or Minitab preferred) to understand manufacturing uptime, availability, and reliability metrics-yield, OEE, cycle time, quality and investigate bottlenecks to identify root cause and countermeasure to maximize throughput
Troubleshoot and recover processes by PLC, HMI, or tool management software, and implement changes/improvements
Ensure manufacturing lines meet uptime, availability and reliability metrics – OEE, cycle time, quality and first time through
Generate and maintain documentation including machine and process specifications, manufacturing instructions, electrical and mechanical drawings, BOM, spare parts, PFMEA, control plan, process flow chart
Qualification
Required
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
2 or more years of experience in a production environment and/or proven manufacturing development track record
Experience with high speed, high volume automated manufacturing equipment (Cell Assembly, Part feeding, packaging, Leak testing etc.) a plus
Extensive Proficiency with 3D (SolidWorks, 3Dx, Catia) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD) platforms
Good mechanical aptitude and understanding of tolerance stack up
Understanding of manufacturing equipment safety systems (Safety PLCs, safety category requirements, robot safety, safety guarding, light curtains, LOTO, etc.)
Strong familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies such as DMAIC, 5 Whys, Fishbone, and 8D
A passion to implement and work on ramping a manufacturing line including experience with mechanical automation equipment, robots, design of electromechanical systems, PLCs, motion controls
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, occasionally requiring extended hours
Proven ability to operate under pressure while managing multiple priorities simultaneously
Preferred
Experience with vision systems, PLC controls (Allen Bradley, Siemens, and/or Beckhoff) and MES & database system architecture and data tracking Python and/or MYSQL is preferred
Analyse production with statistical software (JMP or Minitab preferred) to understand manufacturing uptime, availability, and reliability metrics-yield, OEE, cycle time, quality and investigate bottlenecks to identify root cause and countermeasure to maximize throughput
