The role focuses on substation engineering design, analysis, and support, ensuring compliance with industry standards and providing engineering support during construction phases.

Responsibilities
Design and engineering of electric substations (distribution and transmission level)
Prepare and review substation layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications
Perform electrical calculations including load flow, short circuit, grounding, and protection coordination
Support new substation construction, upgrades, and retrofit projects
Coordinate with project managers, field engineers, and utility stakeholders
Ensure compliance with PGE standards, IEEE, NESC, and other applicable codes
Provide engineering support during construction, testing, and commissioning phases
Review vendor drawings, technical documents, and submittals
Qualification
Required
8–10 years of experience in Electric Substation Engineering
Strong experience with utility projects (PGE experience is a big plus)
Knowledge of HV/MV substations, transformers, breakers, relays, and protection systems
Experience with AutoCAD or similar design tools
Strong understanding of electrical codes and industry standards
Excellent communication and coordination skills
Ability to work onsite as required in Fresno, Sacramento, or Oakland
Preferred
Prior experience working directly with PGE or large utility clients
PE License (preferred but not mandatory)
Experience with substation protection & control (P&C)
High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Substation Engineering: 8 years (Preferred)
Substation Design: 8 years (Preferred)
Power Design: 8 years (Preferred)
Renewable energy: 8 years (Preferred)
