The Arkansas Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining and improving transportation infrastructure in the state. They are seeking a Bridge Repairer who will perform carpentry, building, and repair work related to bridge and culvert construction and maintenance.

Responsibilities

Build forms and finish concrete for bridges, culverts, etc
Build and repair bridges
Remove snow and ice during inclement weather
Load, unload and stack bags of salt, sand, cement, chemicals, etc

Qualification

Required

Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, and to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records
Knowledge of welding and cutting tools
Familiarity with carpentry tools
Demonstrated skill and knowledge of carpentry techniques
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to climb up and down hills and grades as well as in and out of vehicles and equipment
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to perform assigned duties in all types of weather as well as other work conditions, e.g. noise, dust and fumes
Ability to perform duties at varying heights
Valid driver's license
Applicants for this position must obtain a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with a tanker (“N”) endorsement within 180 calendar days of hire or promotion from a non-CDL position
Successful applicants must meet the physical and mental requirements for a CDL
Failure to obtain the required CDL within the 180-day period will result in immediate termination
