Manufacturing Machining Engineer Technician – 3rd Shift

The Manufacturing Machining Engineering Technician is responsible for providing technical support for day-to-day manufacturing issues, driving waste reduction initiatives, and facilitating new product launches in the CNC machining facility.

Responsibilities

Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling etc
Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function
Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications
Set machines to complete full cycles to fabricate large number of parts
Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result
Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality
Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
Ability to read and interpret CMM data and prints
Programs CNC machines by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs
Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads
Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards
Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications
Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

Required

High School Diploma or equivalency (HSED or GED)
1 to 3 years of experience in high volume precision machining environment
Experience with making tool path offsets
General understanding of manufacturing processes and thorough knowledge of lathe tooling/programming
Recognize tool paths by interpreting the program (G and M codes)
Machine set-ups and change-overs
Ability to train associates on machining standards
Troubleshoot daily production problems through root cause analysis techniques as they occur
Develop machining processes for new products
Coordinate engineering changes
Participate in continuous improvement processes
Maintains safety and good housekeeping standards
Adhere to Corporate policies and procedures
Ability to work side by side with outside vendors in an effort to reduce production and tooling costs
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Follow the Health, Safety and Environmental Program as reflected in the Health and Safety Policy Statement as well as the Environmental Management System (EMS)
Adhere to the Quality Management System (QMS) and the Quality Policy
