Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer – Hardware Lead

Responsibilities

Lead a team of engineers to design, develop, integrate, and test mechanical hardware within the Advanced Technologies area
In parallel with the above role, for a related prototype build contract, lead the mechanical team’s contributions through planning and execution
Work independently, under limited supervision, and act in a project leadership role, often requires the ability to delegate and review the work of others
Own the Earn Value Management System (EVMS) and Cost Account Management (CAM) for several accounts across multiple contracts
Manage mechanical risk and opportunities across contracts
Support failure investigations and hardware anomalies as required
Communicate progress and help needed to program leadership, functional leadership, and government customers
Work environment is primarily in an office, but may include occasional travel, labs, and field work
Collaborate with both Functional and Program higher level management
Collaborate with Customer and Suppliers

Required

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience
10 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Mechanical product and subassembly design, integration, and production support
A minimum of 1 year of experience in Earned Value Management (EVMS) and/or Cost Account Management (CAM) of full EVM (IMS baselining, Baseline Change Requests, Variance Narratives, etc.)
Active and transferable U.S. government issued Top Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Preferred

Advanced degrees in engineering, mathematics, physics, or related engineering degree
10+ years of professional experience in hardware design, development, and or test of defense-related components or systems
Bachelor of Science or master's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
2+ Years of experience as a CAM
Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing practices and interpretation for mechanical hardware
Proposal Experience including writing Basis of Estimates (BOE's) and providing material estimating inputs
Experience Managing Suppliers
Highly self-motivated individual that can perform multidiscipline work
Interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with peers, suppliers, management, and customers in a production environment
Experience working with missiles or similar systems, particularly in the Alternative Missions and Space environment
Experience leading teams and managing resources (cost, people, and schedule) and delegating tasks and holding others accountable, with or without Earned Value Management (EVM) experience
Experience with effective communication (written and verbal) during collaboration with others to document design decisions and results, to perform trade studies, and to communicate to program leadership and customers through presentations and reports
