Responsibilities

Manages the daily operations and workflow of the accounting department, ensuring all tasks are completed accurately and deadlines are met
Provides supervision, direction, and performance evaluation to assigned accounting staff. Mentors and supports team members in various accounting functions and problem resolution
Oversees the month-end close process and ensures all financial statements are completed on time
Develops and maintains accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements. Ensures staff are trained on policy and procedures
Collaborates with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
Identifies areas of improvement and leads initiatives to streamline and improve processes. Assists with other special projects as needed, including system upgrades
Maintains knowledge of standard accounting theories, principles, practices, and techniques to develop conclusions and make recommendations. Consults management with unusual or challenging situations to develop strategies and resolve issues

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, required
Three years of experience in personnel-related grant accounting experience, required
Experience with Windows-based integrated accounting software and strong aptitude for other software programs, including MS Office, required
Effective analytical and organizational skills to identify and resolve procedural or systems operational issues
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and customer service skills
Ability to multitask and prioritize
Ability to maintain confidential information
