Intake Specialist

Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County is a Christian organization dedicated to providing support for homeless individuals and families. As an Intake Specialist, you will serve as the first point of connection for guests seeking refuge, conducting assessments and coordinating services to foster a compassionate and healing environment.

Responsibilities

Greet every guest with warmth, compassion, and a non-judgmental spirit, embodying the love of Christ
Build trust through attuned, respectful communication using TBRI® Connecting Principles (eye contact, soft tone, presence)
Offer prayer and spiritual encouragement when appropriate and aligned with the guest’s comfort level
Conduct holistic placement interviews that reflect each individual’s story, not just their situation
Assess needs related to safety, housing, trauma history, mental health, and substance use with sensitivity. Provide appropriate referrals to internal or external programs in the community based on placement assessment
Identify TBRI®-informed strategies to support regulation and felt safety during the placement process
Collaborate with program staff to determine appropriate placements, accommodations, and next steps
Ensure smooth transitions by preparing guests for the structure and rhythm of shelter life
Provide orientation to shelter rules through TBRI® Correcting Principles: proactive guidance, voice tone, and consistency
Maintain accurate, timely records in alignment with agency, funding, and ethical standards
Honor each guest’s story by protecting their dignity and confidentiality at all times
Equip guests with knowledge of available resources, shelter services, and support systems
Encourage personal agency and decision-making, utilizing TBRI® Empowering Principles (choice, voice, co-regulation)
Support guests in their goals toward healing, stability, and spiritual renewal

Required

A heart for ministry and a deep commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ
High School Diploma or GED required; degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Ministry, or related field preferred
Prior experience working with vulnerable populations (e.g., unsheltered, trauma, addiction)
Familiarity or training in TBRI® or other trauma-informed care models (or willingness to receive training)
Exceptional interpersonal and de-escalation skills grounded in patience, empathy, and presence
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-emotion environment with grace and adaptability

Preferred

Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Ministry, or related field preferred
Bilingual a plus
