Associate General Counsel, Product and Privacy

They are seeking an Associate General Counsel for Product and Privacy to support their Product, Technology, and Marketing teams by providing legal advice to ensure regulatory compliance while promoting product innovation.

Responsibilities
Help develop, enhance, and scale the global CARFAX privacy program, including privacy operations and documentation, incident and response plans, employee training and policy development and enforcement
Collaborate with the CARFAX information security team to implement best practices for privacy and data security, perform periodic data privacy risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate privacy and security risks
Help develop external privacy notices and disclosures as well as internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with privacy and cybersecurity laws
Assist with documenting, tracking, investigating and acting on data subject access rights requests and complaints as well as completing security questionnaires
Partner with the CARFAX Product, Technology and Marketing teams to instill privacy compliant strategies throughout product development practices along with ensuring compliance with consumer protection laws and regulations
Serve as a key resource to the commercial contracts team with respect to privacy and data security
Help provide training to ensure CARFAX has a consistent and clear position on applicable privacy, data security and consumer protection laws
Monitor legislation, regulations, case law, government enforcement activities, evolving industry standards and emerging trends in privacy, data security and consumer protection to proactively provide advice to CARFAX leadership and the Product, Technology and Marketing teams
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Currently licensed to practice law in Virginia or eligible to be admitted under a Virginia Corporate Counsel Certificate
At least 5 years' experience advising clients on privacy, data security and consumer protection issues, including both law firm and in-house experience, with significant and progressive responsibility
Expertise in federal and state privacy, data security and consumer protection law required, with experience in Canada and Europe strongly preferred
Exceptional leadership and relationship management skills
Assertive and effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers and present material in group settings
Strong business acumen and process-oriented with experience building and scaling internal processes, documentation and systems
Strong work ethic with excellent follow up skills and a proactive mindset
Experience taking initiative in seeking solutions to problems
Proven ability to work in a demanding environment, both independently and as part of a team, with a hands-on attitude and a willingness to get things done
Preferred
Experience representing technology companies strongly preferred
Experience with artificial intelligence strongly preferred
CIPP/US required, CIPP/C and CIPP/EU strongly preferred
