Responsibilities
Architecting and setting up new databases and complex database environments
Monitoring, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing database performance
Implementing access controls, security policies, and ensuring compliance
Developing and executing data backup and disaster recovery plans
Performing patching, upgrades, and routine system health checks
Automating routine tasks (backups, reports, etc.)
Providing advanced support and root cause analysis for complex database issues
Guiding junior database administrators
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (experience may substitute)
6+ years of experience in database management
Deep knowledge of SQL Server, Oracle, cloud DBs (Azure, AWS), ETL, HA/DR solutions (AlwaysOn, Data Guard)
Strong problem-solving, analytical, attention to detail, and communication skills
Reads and writes English as demonstrated by clear and concise written and verbal communications
Creates and delivers group presentations on function-related subject matter and writes reports in a clear, concise form
Performs basic Microsoft Office applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations
Performs basic arithmetic skills (measurement, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to do basic calculations and analyses such as estimating, determining averages and percentages, and calculating totals as outlined under the Business Math Policy (8-01) in the AvalonBay Procedures Manual
Frequently operates general office equipment such as, but not limited to, personal computer, telephone, photocopying machine, facsimile machine, and postage machine
Possesses skills working with Linux systems and ORACLE Databases
Understands and troubleshoots 'N' Tier environment issues such as Database server, App server and Web server
Preferred
Relevant certifications (Microsoft Azure, AWS) can be beneficial
