Responsibilities
Own and ensure high-quality protection and control designs for T&D substations, data centers, industrial facilities, and BESS applications
Develop and review:
Protection one-line and three-line diagrams
AC/DC schematics
Relay settings and logic diagrams
Tripping tables and matrices
Lead local and remote teams in developing:
Protection single-line diagrams
Panel general arrangements and schematics
Wiring diagrams and control house layouts
Design and review:
Auxiliary AC/DC power systems
Battery and charger sizing
Voltage drop calculations
CT, PT, and CCVT specifications
Evaluate interoperability, control features, and communication protocols of protection relays, including IEC 61850, SCADA, cybersecurity, and telecom integration
Coordinate with:
Electrical layout engineers and designers
Relay setting engineers
Site managers, commissioning engineers, and field personnel
Interface directly with customers to resolve technical issues
Review vendor and manufacturer technical documentation
Prepare P&C engineering estimates, including equipment quantities and cost inputs for proposals
Support FAT, SAT, outage, and cutover planning; assist with field testing and commissioning (remote or on-site)
Perform peer reviews and constructability reviews of P&C deliverables
Support engineering leadership in meeting KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives (standards, quality, productivity, lessons learned)
Execute projects in compliance with established policies, procedures, and safety standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred)
5+ years of experience in: Protection schemes and relay selection, Transmission, distribution, and generation protection, AIS and GIS substations
Strong working knowledge of IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture
Experience with protection drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and secondary engineering deliverables
PE License or EIT with commitment to pursue PE
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Willingness to travel up to 20% (including international, if required)
IEC 61850 substation implementation experience
Leadership of local and remote P&C design teams
Hands-on experience with: DC battery and charger sizing, Voltage drop calculations, Auxiliary AC power design, FAT, SAT, outage, and cutover planning
Ability to perform peer reviews and engineering constructability reviews
Experience preparing P&C estimates and proposal support
Preferred
Experience with ETAP, Aspen OneLiner (relay coordination, short circuit, arc flash studies)
Familiarity with NERC-CIP standards and cybersecurity requirements
Experience in Lean methodologies and technical problem-solving
Strong customer-facing and commercial experience
