Laboratory Analyst II

Responsibilities
Perform isotopic and elemental analysis of uranium materials using wet chemical preparation techniques and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)
Analyze total uranium content and trace elemental impurities
Operate and troubleshoot ICP-MS systems, including sample introduction and electronic components
Utilize host computers and process control devices to initiate subroutines and manage analytical workflows
Determine chemical composition and impurities using titrimetric, gravimetric, colorimetric, and chromatographic techniques
Set up, operate, and troubleshoot vacuum equipment and gas analyzer systems
Perform elemental analysis using analytical devices such as Horiba analyzers
Maintain and operate equipment involving induction furnaces, gas manifolds, and power supplies
Conduct analytical testing to ensure compliance with environmental and employee safety regulations
Maintain high accuracy and precision in testing and record keeping
Operate and troubleshoot laboratory mechanical equipment (centrifuges, vacuum pumps, ovens, regulators, drill presses, grinders, metrology tools, etc.)
Apply precision laboratory techniques including pipetting, titration, analytical weighing, volumetric dilutions, heat treatment, hardness testing, and digital image analysis
Utilize Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and instrument control computers for data collection, analysis, storage, and retrieval
Monitor equipment performance, respond to alarms, perform preventive maintenance, and complete minor repairs
Accurately document results in manual and electronic logs
Maintain laboratory inventory, prepare reagents and standards, and ensure proper storage of reference materials
Support production-floor processes by understanding the role of laboratory data in process control and product quality
Maintain laboratory cleanliness and participate in regular facility inspections
Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders regarding lab services and results
Adhere to industrial, chemical, and nuclear safety regulations at all times
Perform additional duties aligned with laboratory objectives, including method development, procedure updates, and training support
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related physical science
Minimum of 18 months of laboratory experience (academic or industry), including mechanical and electronic equipment troubleshooting
Demonstrated experience and strong knowledge in at least two of the following: ICP Mass Spectrometry, Ion Chromatography, Environmental Testing
Strong understanding of mathematical and chemical equations
Ability to work independently after initial training
Flexibility to work rotating shifts and overtime as required for continuous lab operations
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to lift up to 45 lbs and pass applicable quality control vision tests (Ishihara)
Ability to work in radioactive material–controlled areas and pass Nuclear Safety Training
Routine handling of acids, bases, solvents, radioactive materials, and other hazardous substances
Preferred
Experience with standard analytical laboratory methods (titrimetry, gravimetry, spectrophotometry, etc.) preferred
