As-Needed Architectural Historian

The As-Needed Architectural Historian will support cultural resources services, primarily through office-based tasks, including preparing technical reports, conducting research, and evaluating properties for historic significance.

Responsibilities

Help prepare cultural resources technical reports under CEQA and Section 106 of the NHPA
Research and write historic context statements. Ability to navigate, coordinate, and conduct online research through various platforms and databases, as well as in-person research at libraries and archival facilities
Evaluating properties in accordance with local, state, and national historic significance criteria and integrity requirements on State of California Department of Parks and Recreation forms
Ability to work within fixed budgets and produce deliverables within project schedules and task timelines
Learn considerations in assessing impacts and effects on historical resources/properties and prepare defensible compliance documentation for CEQA and Section 106 review
Promote a culture of teamwork, engagement, quality service, and customer satisfaction to our clients
Enhance Dudek’s professional reputation and demonstrate the ability to be creative and innovative with these tasks while representing Dudek in a professional manner
Work with project team members to track commitments to support a variety of projects
Incorporate and respond to feedback on work products, including but not individual tasks, in a professional manner
Ability to perform a task and add the knowledge from completing that task as a skill. The skill is then acquired to the extent that the next time the task is requested or assigned, it requires only minimal supervision, instruction, or guidance
Able to perform basic fieldwork with other architectural historians or alone if necessary
Ability to build on the knowledge and acquire skills to complete historic context writing and technical report writing tasks with minimal instruction or supervision. Comfortable occasionally interacting with clients and project managers
Be able to work cooperatively in a team-oriented setting
Demonstrated knowledge of the history/architectural history of California

Required

Bachelor's degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a related field
Must demonstrate strong writing and solid written and verbal communication skills
Highly organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Must have a valid driver's license
Must be proficient in MS Office, in particular Word and Excel
Self-motivated with interest in learning and growing as a project team
Deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment (If applicable)

Preferred

Master's degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a related field
Meets the Secretary of the Interiors Professional Qualification Standards for history and/or architectural history
Professional experience as a consultant in the discipline of architectural history/historic preservation
