ACCOUNTANT 1

State of Arizona Enterprise Technology (ASET) is seeking an Accountant 1 to join their innovative team focused on enhancing Arizona's transportation system. This role involves performing defined accounting tasks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP, and assisting with financial reconciliations and reporting.

Responsibilities

Makes fiscal entries (deposits, inter-fund, intra-funds transfers, and adjustments) and revisions to agency accounts and financial records through the automated accounting system
Review and verify fiscal documents (transfers, invoices, encumbrances, receivables, and deposits) for accuracy, timeliness, and proper utilization of accounting codes, transaction types, and funds
Assure documents are processed from various state agencies and the department
Corrects accounting codes on fiscal documents ensuring accuracy
Research, problem solving, and decision making relating to financial matters coming from internal and external customers regarding work methods and processes
Assist employees from all areas, being a source of financial information and providing interpretations as it applies to the department and the State of Arizona

Required

Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting from an accredited college or university; or a Bachelor's degree in a related field with a minimum of 24 semester hours of accounting courses; or previous relevant work experience
Considerable experience using automated accounting systems, spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel, and other analytical tools used for reporting, compiling, heavy analysis, comparative analyses, etc
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to understand the difference between various fund types and how they apply to general ledger
Ability to classify receipts, expenditure and balance sheet accounts
Ability to properly record the journal entries of the Department
Experience in the process of reconciling revenue, expenditure and balance sheet accounts
Experience using Automated Accounting Systems to process various types of transfers and corrections
Extensive knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel to interpret data (i.e. macros, data validation, formulas, functions)
Knowledge of Google Suite
Skill in analysis, interpretation and communication of financial data
Skill in work prioritization, organization and time management; prioritizing tasks effectively to optimize productivity and meet deadlines
High level of attention to detail and accuracy
Oral and written communication skills; expressing thoughts clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing
Data entry skills to record transactions in an automated accounting system (AZ360)
Ability to communicate and relate effectively with counterparts in other areas of the department and other government entities
Ability to analyze, logically reason, and understand numerical and mathematical concepts
Critical Thinking - The ability to analyze situations to make rational decisions, considering all relevant factors and possible outcomes
Ability to think in a systematic and organized manner; to work well with a variety of personnel; and to work independently
Ability to professionally communicate with others both verbally and in writing
Ability to understand customers and stakeholders concerns
Ability to handle unexpected workload effectively
