Responsibilities

Leading the design, development, and implementation of plans for linking major statewide data sources including but not limited to Prescription Drug Monitoring Program data, ED and hospitalization data, mortality data, and pre-hospital care (e-PCR) data
Leading the design and development of comprehensive scientific research plans for complex analyses of the linked data to fill information gaps and needs
Overseeing the implementation of these scientific research plans including directing and managing unit staff in conducting complex statistical analyses, leading interpretation of results, developing various reports and peered-review manuscripts to support opioid and substance misuse intervention activities, designing and developing surveillance products such as comprehensive surveillance reports, data visualization dashboards of important performance indicators, and data to action reports
Supervising staff, providing appropriate training and guidance, and conducting other related duties as assigned

Required

A bachelor's degree in Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics, Public Health, Biology, Biomedical Science, Engineering, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Infection Control, Mathematics or a closely related degree field
Five (5) years of full-time, professional scientific research experience in an appropriate field
Substitutions: master's degree in Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics, Public Health, Biology, Biomedical Science, Engineering, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Infection Control, Mathematics or a closely related degree field may substitute for one year of experience
Doctorate or Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics, Public Health, Biology, Biomedical Science, Engineering, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Infection Control, Mathematics or a closely related degree field may substitute for an additional year of experience

Preferred

Master's degree in Public Health or related field and four years of experience in public health research, surveillance or evaluation
Doctorate in Public Health or related field and two years of experience in public health research, surveillance or evaluation
Experience in grant application development and management
Proficiency in using data analysis, database and statistical software, interpretation, and dissemination of data for varied audiences as part of performing independent scientific research
Experience with deterministic and probabilistic data matching methodology and algorithms
Analyzing large public health data, especially using time-to-event methodology in the performance of scientific research
Intermediate or advanced proficiency using SAS including proficient use of SAS BASE, SQL, GRAPH, STAT, ODS, MACRO, Tableau in the performance of scientific research activities
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
