Clerk III - Assessor
Whatcom County Assessor's Office is seeking to fill the position of Clerk III. This role involves performing diverse office, secretarial, and clerical support functions to maintain the Assessor's Office property database and assist customers with various applications and inquiries.

Responsibilities
Determining and responding to customer needs both in-office and over the telephone
Assisting in maintaining accurate parcel accounts for the tax roll
Accurately creating property account data based on recorded documents, providing data entry assistance to a variety of program areas including building permit information, property ownership and segregations, property exemptions, and personal property account maintenance
Assisting customers with applications for the Property Tax Exemption program for senior citizens and people with disabilities
Performing audit control and data verification in accordance with department policy/procedures, as assigned
Supplementing property assessment records when changes affect a certified assessment year
Providing support for clerical program areas
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
Three years of progressively responsible general office, clerical, and/or secretarial experience
Ability to type accurately and proficiently with a speed of 40 net words per minute and perform data entry with accuracy at 100 strokes per minute
Preferred
Experience in an Assessor's Office or land title office and/or maintaining database information
Completion of classes in real estate, taxation
Completion of college-level computer courses in spreadsheets, databases and word processing
Knowledge of basic taxation and real estate terms and income tax documents
