Responsibilities

Provide administrative and technical support to attorneys, and others in all phases of project and case development
Organize documents and perform case management using a variety of software including, but not limited to MS Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Pro, Power Point, Outlook and Legal Files
Perform legal and general research, gather information, and compile data, prepare notebooks and indexes as appropriate
Draft and prepare letters, memos and other correspondence
Draft, prepare and respond to a variety of legal documents such as complaints, answers, briefs, discovery, motions, affidavits, etc
Provide case management and deadline control, monitoring progress of all assigned matters
Prepare lawsuits for litigation and manage all aspects of case management, including analyzing and preparing complex discovery, document collection, production and review, managing electronic discovery, and trial preparation
Read and summarize deposition transcripts, medical records, employment records, transcripts, and other documents as required
Arranging for timely filing and service of pleadings and documents in Washington State courts and federal courts
Schedule and attend meetings, trainings, and provide staff coverage
Maintaining and updating the case management system
Attend Equity and Social Justice trainings including discussions
Perform related work as required

Required

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with all levels of clients and County staff

Time management skills to effectively and accurately handle multiple tasks within often short deadlines
Ability to handle emergency situations and work under pressure
Experience supporting a civil law practice
Knowledge of legal office practices and procedures
Knowledge of Civil court rules and procedures
Knowledge of complex filing systems
Skill in remaining calm in high stress situations and meeting deadlines
Skill in working on a number of tasks simultaneously and accurately
Skill in remaining objective, nonjudgmental and sensitive to a situation and in conducting business in a professional manner
Demonstrated initiative and accountability in work product and service, and the ability to follow through on issues to completion
Strong communication skills and the ability to receive and follow complex verbal and written instructions and accurately complete tasks with close attention to detail
Skill in working independently and as a member of a team
Skill in explaining procedures and legal terminology to lay people
Ability to maintain office confidentiality
Skill in interview, analytic and research techniques
Ability to prepare a variety of clear and concise written materials using proper grammar, punctuation and spelling
Ability to provide editing, proofreading, and useful feedback for attorneys
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, clients and others
Must be dependable and willing to assist co-workers as needed
Ability to access and utilize information from various computer systems
Skill in using Advanced MS Word, Adobe Pro, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel required
Knowledge of case management software
Ability to type 45 words per minute accurately
This position occasionally requires moving or lifting heavy objects, such as boxes of books, papers, etc. that weigh 20-25 pounds
Ability to demonstrate timely, reliable, and predictable attendance
Active participation in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions, support for the PAO's Race, Equity and Social Justice policy and principles, work with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement
Ability to provide excellent customer service in communications with people of diverse backgrounds, including witnesses, clients, and court personnel in a tactful, diplomatic, patient, and professional manner
