Responsibilities

Stay up to date on substantive and procedural developments in removal-defense law, with special attention to changes affecting immigration court practice in Arizona
Structure your schedule so you are reasonably available to respond to legal questions from the firm’s removal-defense attorneys as needed
Work closely with the firm’s partners to ensure that your mentoring time is used efficiently and effectively, with the goal of helping the firm’s removal-defense attorneys become as independent as possible
Collaborate with the firm's leadership team to identify training and development requirements for the firm's removal defense attorneys
Managing the firm's BIA caseload, which requires writing and filing appellate briefs and motions to reopen, and maintaining effective communication with clients
Maintaining a limited caseload of other cases that may be performed remotely, especially circuit court and district court litigation
Effectively communicate with other attorneys and experts in the field—locally and nationally—to leverage as much knowledge and advice as possible for the benefit of our clients
Analyze the immigration consequences of criminal convictions by providing “Padilla consults” to criminal defense attorneys
Perform consultations for potential clients who are interested in the law firm’s services

Required

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Must be licensed to practice law by the highest court of any state
Minimum seven years of removal defense experience
Substantial experience in litigating removal defense cases in United States immigration courts
Handling appeals at the BIA
Substantial experience in circuit court appeals and district court litigation

Preferred

Proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred but not required
