Responsibilities
Build bespoke themes with PHP 8, modern HTML/CSS (Sass/PostCSS), and ES6+ JS
Create blocks or ACF fields, theme.json, and editor styles
Implement CPTs, taxonomies, fields, menus, options pages; write/extend plugins when needed
Extend Bootstrap or a similar framework to make for efficient code theming and customization
Design, create, and manage relational databases utilizing MySQL
Use AI for code generation/refactoring
Integrate third parties: GA4, GTM, marketing pixels, CRM, DAMs, and APIs
Ensure SEO/technical hygiene: schema, metadata, routing, sitemaps, redirects, Core Web Vitals
Partner with Creative/UX to translate concepts into scalable components and design systems
Partner with Analytics to ensure accurate tagging, experimentation (A/B), and data capture
Stay current with industry technologies and research emerging ones. Be prepared to share your knowledge internally and with clients
Ensure websites function correctly across various browsers and devices, addressing compatibility issues as needed
Ensure websites comply with accessibility standards and provide an inclusive user experience
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for code, processes, and workflows to support knowledge sharing and onboarding
Qualification
Required
6+ years professional web dev (agency or similar pace), with a deep WordPress focus
Demonstrated custom theme and plugin builds (portfolio/GitHub required)
PHP 8, MySQL, and WordPress internals: theme hierarchy, hooks/filters, WP_Query, REST API
Gutenberg and ACF expertise: custom blocks, theme.json, editor experience design
Developers who see the bigger picture and avoid using inline styles and compartmentalizing code blocks as much as possible
Strong understanding of UX for both web and mobile experiences
Understanding of git and git flow and typical versioning practices
Ability to empathize with clients' needs and translate into an exceptional result, along with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with cross-functional teams
A strong portfolio showcasing a range of design and development projects, illustrating proficiency in translating designs into functional websites
A portfolio highlighting your WordPress experience is required for submission
Preferred
Experience with headless CMS or Multisite and/or experience with open source frameworks like Laravel a plus
