Mechanical Engineer III
Sterling Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to support the design and development of mechanical systems and components across multiple product lines. The role involves collaborating in a cross-functional engineering environment, making design decisions, and ensuring successful product launches through various engineering processes.

Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical systems per customer and technical requirements
Make design decisions that impact product performance, cost, and manufacturability
Contribute to innovation, patents, or process improvement
Support engineering designs from concept through production launch
Participate in DFMEA sessions to identify and mitigate design risks
Follow APQP/NPD processes to ensure successful product launches
Participate in or lead root cause analysis and support implementation of corrective actions
Evaluate specifications and performance needs to deliver cost-effective solutions
Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain for DFM/DFA alignment
Create and review detailed drawings, layouts, and schematics
Participate in prototype builds and test planning
Analyze test results to enhance product performance and reliability
Support Sales and Field Service in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
Lead or contribute to 8D teams for systemic problem-solving and continuous improvement
Maintain clear documentation and communication across teams
Occasional travel (10%) to customers and manufacturing sites
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred; ABET-accredited)
6+ years of relevant experience
Working knowledge of mechanical design of systems and components including engineering & manufacturing principles, practices, and procedures
Working knowledge in APQP/NPD Stage Gate, DFMEA, RCA/8D's, DFM/DFA, Engineering Analysis, & Hand Calculations
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Experience with development of mechanical based systems in transportation
Good problem-solving skills
Familiarity in Poka-Yoke, PPAP, VAVE, Lean Six Sigma, GD&T
Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar
Strong organizational and time management skills
Basic project management skills and ability to lead engineering based small sized projects or parts of projects
