Responsibilities

Ownership of robotic consumable design including:
Concept ideation using first principles knowledge
Investigation of applicable technologies and off-the-shelf components
Prototyping, material selection, testing, and iterating designs
Detailed design work in CAD, including modeling and creation of detailed drawings
Analysis of designs including loads, tolerance stack ups, manufacturability, and material compatibility with bioprocess, sterilization, and cleaning
Close collaboration with Biology, Product, and Robotic Software teams to ensure your designs meet requirements for the bioprocess and the robotic system
Collaborate with technicians to build consumable prototypes in-house for initial engineering validation testing
Generation of supporting design documentation and manufacturing instructions
Manage design transfer of prototypes to production manufacturing for completed designs
Own design validation testing and process validation testing post-design transfer
Responsibilities may also include some machine, mechanism, and robot end effector design

Required

Mechanical design experience developing bioprocessing consumables and/or medical devices from concept to production, including starting from a ‘blank sheet'
Ability to solve complex technical problems by breaking them down into simpler pieces and executable tasks
Fundamental knowledge of mechanical components, common engineering metals, plastics, joining methods, part fabrication methods, and finishing operations
Experience working in 3D CAD software
Fundamental knowledge of injection molded part design
Basic knowledge of GD&T standards
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
2+ years engineering experience in a relevant/similar field

Preferred

Experience working in FDA and/or EMA regulated industries
Familiarity with medical/biopharma material selection for sterile, single-use assemblies
Onshape experience
Hands on experience with machine shop and prototyping tools
