Police Business Intelligence Analyst

The City of Aurora is seeking a Police Business Intelligence Analyst to support operational decision-making through accurate analytics. This role involves designing and maintaining data pipelines, analytical models, and reporting solutions, while collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure data integrity and transparency.

Responsibilities

Designs, builds, and maintains data visualizations, dashboards, and reports using Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SSRS, and related Microsoft tools
Develops and supports SQL-based data pipelines and queries to integrate, transform, and validate data from multiple operational systems
Translates business and operational requests into well-defined analytical requirements and reporting solutions
Reviews and validates all reports and dashboards to ensure accuracy, integrity, consistency, and auditability
Processes, cleans, and analyzes complex multi-source datasets, including crime data, response time data, staffing data, and administrative data
Supports trend analysis and operational studies that inform leadership decisions and strategic initiatives
Maintains strong working knowledge of department data structures, reporting requirements, and evolving business needs
Documents assumptions, logic, and data sources to support transparency, sustainability, and future maintenance
Proactively identifies data quality issues, analytical risks, and improvement opportunities
Perform other related duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related field
Minimum 1 year of experience in SQL Database Management and PowerBI or Power Automate
Strong independent SQL capability
Solid analytical judgment
Ability to translate complex and often ambiguous business questions into scalable, production-ready analytics
Curiosity, adaptability, and an eagerness to continuously learn new technologies
Strong SQL skills supporting complex querying, reporting, and data integration needs
Skilled in data modeling and semantic layer design (e.g., star schemas, fact/dimension concepts)
Strong assessment and problem-solving skills
Comfortable working across multiple systems with differing refresh cycles and structures
Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with stakeholders, developers, and data scientists
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers, and other City departments
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and tools
Ability to evaluate data quality, identify anomalies, and ensure defensible results
Able to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
Handle situations with tact and diplomacy
Establish and fulfill goals and objectives
Proactively research, analyze, present recommendations and when appropriate, implement computer system changes and upgrades that may be initiated by a variety of sources including staff, management, and vendors
Valid Colorado driver's license

Preferred

Prior experience in government, public safety, or other regulated / high-accountability environments
Familiarity with SSRS and report lifecycle management
Knowledge of Microsoft Power App products, SQL and SSRS Report Builder
Understanding of report and dashboard development using Power BI
Knowledge of Power Apps and Power Automate, or demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and apply new tools
Knowledge of Python and its use for data analysis, automation, or pipeline support
Understanding of data modeling, data grain, and analytical best practices
