Blade Repair Technician III - Traveler

The Blade Repair Technician III works as part of a small team to ensure safe and timely maintenance and repair of wind turbine blades, including inspections and specialized tasks involving composite and fiberglass repair.

Responsibilities

Performs material and coatings repairs on various composite structures, including turbine blades and other similar components
Follows procedures in the technical documentation provided, to correctly carry out the tasks (ITRs, ITBs, EVRs, etc.)
Performs professional grade sanding, cutting, grinding, cleaning and lay-up of fiberglass, carbon fiber, coatings, and resin materials
Climbs and descends Wind Turbines in a safe manner, utilizing established protocol and guidelines
Engages in the safe use and operation of hanging platforms and scaffolds
Collaborates with Managers, Leaders and Customer representatives to meet daily contractual obligations
Interacts with Engineering professionally, with the ability to follow prescribed lamination schedules, to ensure quality and complete repairs
Gathers, maintains and reports, detailed records and documents
Uses appropriate equipment and materials, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), rope access devices, repair tools, cameras etc. assigned for the safe and effective execution of blade inspection and repairs
Reports to the supervisor, progress of the work and the results obtained
Proposes process or safety improvements
Participates and assists with JSA, and safety paperwork
Participates and assists with LOTO
Interfaces with Subcontractors and Owners, in a professional manner
Follows company NERC compliance program as required
Supports tracking of deliveries on site
Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action when needed
Reports potentially unsafe conditions immediately
Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected
Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct and Company Policies & Procedures
Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude
Collaborates with Health and Safety as required
Complies with environmental protection policies
Identifies and segregates hazardous and non-hazardous waste and deposits them in the specific containers as required
Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action
Ensures that safety is the most important function, follows safe practices while working
Reinforces safe behaviors and eliminates “at risk” behaviors
Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly
Ensures Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) occurs before scopes of work commence
Adheres to and understands standard operating procedures
Receives job- and task-specific training prior to work commencing

Required

High school/GED General Education required
GWO Certification required
4+ years or more Related maintenance experience required
Intermediate knowledge of High voltage electrical power systems
Intermediate knowledge of 2m Basket
Intermediate Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Intermediate Knowledge of Low voltage and medium voltage electrical power systems
Intermediate Knowledge of Different wind technologies/platforms
Intermediate Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets
Intermediate Knowledge of OSHA regulations
Intermediate Knowledge of Equipment operation (skid-steer, forklift, etc.)
Intermediate Knowledge of Job hazard analysis (JHA) creation
Intermediate Knowledge of Electrical tools (multimeter, IR camera)
Intermediate Knowledge of ANSI/NETA/MTS
Intermediate Knowledge of SCADA systems
Advanced knowledge of Hand tools (orbitals, grinders, stripper, vacuum pumps, meters, etc.)
Advanced knowledge of Professional knowledge, control, disposal and correct application of the chemical products, used in blade repair (epoxy/polyester resin, polyurethane/methacrylate adhesives, polyurethane paints/coatings, fillers, etc.)
Domestic travel 76-100% required
Valid Driver's License required
Must be able to obtain or possess a DOT Medical Certification to pull trailers
Must be able to maintain established physical requirements according to GWO Guidelines
Proficient in reading, writing and speaking English

Preferred

Associate degree Related Technical Degree preferred
Certification OSHA 10/30 preferred
Bilingual in Spanish (desirable)
