Bankruptcy Specialist
Utah Community Credit Union (UCCU) is seeking a Bankruptcy Specialist to handle specialized bankruptcy work in the Collections Department. The role involves reviewing, collecting, and analyzing bankruptcy plans and ensuring compliance with bankruptcy law, while also managing IT settings related to bankruptcy cases.

Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for overseeing the effective and efficient performance of ceditor responsibilites in bankruptcy cases
Analyzes all bankruptcy filings received by the credit union for initial response and planning
Works with internal and external legal counsel to formulate and execute objections and respones to court filings
Manages bankruptcy reponse quality, efficiency, and productivity. Provides suggestions for improving efficiency with the goal of returning the highest dollar possible to the credit union in relation to bankrtuptcy cases. Ensures bankruptcy functions are completed timely, properly and thoroughly and in accordance with established Credit Union policies and procedures
Approves extensions and modifications of loans as permitted by the bankruptcy code
Analyses the proper reponse for plans that provide for payment outside of bankruptcy plans, reaffirmations, and other filings. Negotiates with bankruptcy debtor attorneys
Manages Information System Settings and Training
Works with the IT Department to manage settings and functions in the credit union’s core computer systems such that mailings, credit reporting, and other functions are adjusted appropriately when a member files bankruptcy
Maintains training and procedure materials regarding how to properly treat bankruptcy cases; keeps other collection department personnel trained as assigned so as to minimize the risk of business interruption if the position becomes vacant
Qualification
Required
High school graduate or equivalent
Thorough understanding of bankruptcy procedures, loan, credit, and collections policies and procedures
Understanding of collections methods, policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Two to three years as a Collections Officer
Good communication abilities
Able to work well in stressful situations
Well organized
Able to use computer, calculator, telephone, and other basic business equipment
Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously without missing deadlines
Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization
Able to interpret various instructions
Ability to compute amortizations and other loan requirements
Must also possess math, graphing, and reporting skills
Ability to read a variety of sites, books, and instruction manuals
Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling and grammar
Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis; correct punctuation (or sign equivalent) and variation in word order; using present, perfect, and future tenses
