Senior Consultant - Building Envelope
Hals Consulting, LLC specializes in structural engineering and building envelope consulting. The role involves providing consulting services for commercial building projects, including field investigations, technical evaluations, and project management.
Responsibilities
Perform building envelope investigations and assessments (facades, roofing, waterproofing, windows/doors, parking garages, exterior cladding)
Investigate failure mechanisms and distress conditions through field work, testing, and document review
Develop repair concepts, remediation strategies, and scopes of work
Prepare technical reports, opinions, and recommendations
Produce design sketches and construction documents
Support bidding and provide construction administration
Make site visits during construction, prepare field reports, and respond to RFIs and field conditions
Manage projects end-to-end (scope, schedule, budget, deliverables)
Coordinate junior staff, CAD/drafting support, and subconsultants
Maintain proactive client communication and technical consultation
Support follow-on work through strong client relationships
Maintain professional licensure as applicable (P.E., R.A. etc.)
Track billable time and project documentation per company standard
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
5–12+ years of overall experience
Experience at leading building envelope or existing buildings consulting firms
Experience with or strong interest in existing buildings, including investigation, assessment, rehabilitation, and restoration
Exposure to one or more of the following: Building envelope / enclosure systems, Facades, roofing, waterproofing, windows, and exterior wall assemblies, Field investigations and condition assessments, Repair and restoration design, Building science and performance issues
Strong technical writing, documentation, and client communication skills
Willingness to perform both field and office-based work
Preferred
Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
Licensure preferred but not required: Professional Engineer (P.E.), Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or Registered Architect (R.A.)
