Virginia Oyster Gardening Intern

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the Chesapeake Bay through education, advocacy, and restoration efforts. The Virginia Oyster Gardening Intern will assist in planning and executing the Oyster Gardening Program, engaging with the community to grow and care for oysters for restoration projects. Responsibilities include managing communications, event planning, and hands-on restoration activities.

Responsibilities

Assist with management of the oyster gardening email inbox, field phone calls, and assist with oyster gardening content and outreach
Help answer questions from prospective and current gardeners including event registration support
Assist with scouting and recruiting new public oyster gardening locations
Attend and help CBF Oyster Team staff manage all oyster gardening events
Assist in recruiting and training volunteers for oyster gardening events
Help prepare materials for each event including advocacy asks, spat-on-shell, cages, spreadsheets, etc
Complete general office/administrative support, including data entry and filing, digital and material organization, among other tasks
Assist with other hands-on restoration activities including spat-on-shell production, oyster planting, shell recycling, etc
Assist with large scale restoration activities

Required

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work effectively with staff and volunteers, as well as independently
Excellent time management skills to handle multiple, concurrent projects
Must be a recent graduate or actively enrolled in school and working toward a degree
Familiarity with Excel, Word, and Outlook
Must have reliable daily transportation for travel to CBF's Brock Environmental Center in Virginia Beach
Must be comfortable lifting 50 pounds
Must be in good physical condition to work outside in all elements during the summer

Creative thinker interested in learning about the Chesapeake Bay and furthering the Foundation's mission to 'Save the Bay'
