Maint Section Assistant I, II or III
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Section Assistant I, II, or III to join their Crane Maintenance Office. In this role, you will assist in overseeing maintenance work, coordinate equipment and personnel for roadway projects, and respond to emergency situations as needed.

Responsibilities
Assists in budget preparation for the section
Assists the maintenance section supervisor in overseeing the work of the section and contracted crews including scheduling equipment, material, and personnel necessary for section projects
Assists with planning, coordinating, and implementing emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and hazardous spills affecting area roadways
Ensures all projects follow established safety guidelines
Inspects road conditions, work-in-progress, and work completed by the crews and contractors
Leads the work of Transportation Maintenance Crew Chiefs, technical and clerical staff
Responsible for operations of section in absence of supervisor
Assists in issuing driveway permits and estimating the size of drainage pipes for driveways
Completes reports on damaged railings and bridges
Handles public complaints
Trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures
Qualification
Required
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
Experience: 5 years in roadway maintenance or construction related work for Maintenance Section Assistant I
Experience: 6 years in roadway maintenance or construction related work for Maintenance Section Assistant II
Experience: 7 years in roadway maintenance or construction related work for Maintenance Section Assistant III
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Must have a Commercial Class 'A' Driver's License without transmission restrictions and an 'N' endorsement
Considerable knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work
Considerable knowledge of materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
Considerable knowledge of inventory/stock control procedures
Proficient skill in scheduling work assignments
Proficient skill in leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
Proficient skill in maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
Extensive knowledge of applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
Extensive knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Extensive knowledge of applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
Extensive knowledge of maintenance contract inspection procedures
Physical requirements including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing for prolonged periods, walking long distances, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion
Ability to report for duty within 30 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations
