Junior Image Quality Assessment Engineer and Lab Technician

Responsibilities

Design and implement comprehensive image quality evaluation frameworks and protocols
Conduct rigorous in-lab and field testing to analyze the performance of our imaging systems
Identify areas for improvement and provide data-driven actionable recommendations to engineering and leadership teams
Perform hands-on experiments with various camera systems
Handle control of lighting environments, management and verification of automated systems, and adherence to data capture protocols
Collaborate closely with ML engineers, software developers, and researchers to elaborate visual discrepancies between in-lab and real-world photographs
Document, communicate, and present findings clearly and provide actionable insights to the development team to enhance image quality outcomes

Required

A sharp eye for image quality, detail, and visual aesthetics
Familiarity in both objective and subjective image quality evaluation, including sharpness, color fidelity, and noise evaluation
Experience operating and handling camera systems
Technical proficiency in managing hardware and software components of imaging or testing labs
Strong understanding of photography concepts, such as exposure, depth of field, ISO, and image file formats
Hands-on photography experience (shooting, editing, post-processing)
Ability to articulate visual observations and identify image artifacts
Basic understanding of imaging systems, including optics, sensors, image processing, and tone-mapping
Experience with photo editing software and workflow
Meticulous attention to detail with a strong work ethic
Passion for photography and videography

Preferred

Experience with software development (Python, scripting, automation tools)
Experience running an image testing lab
Understanding of Image Signal Processing (ISP) pipelines
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
BS/MS in imaging, vision, optics, computer science, or a related field
