Manager, Agency Accounting

The Department of the Treasury is dedicated to serving the Commonwealth by providing excellent financial management and outstanding customer service. They are currently recruiting for an Agency Accounting Manager who will be responsible for coordinating the administration of the Security for Public Deposits Act, overseeing the Risk Management claims payment process, and preparing annual financial statements.

Responsibilities

Coordinating the administration of the Security for Public Deposits Act by working with participating financial institutions and maintaining Treasury’s web-based reporting system
Overseeing the Risk Management claims payment and premium receivables process
Preparing annual financial statements and year-end schedules
Reviewing new and existing authoritative governmental accounting pronouncements and assisting with implementation of any changes deemed necessary as a result
Providing assistance to the work unit in performing various functions with emphasis on analyzing and reconciling transactions to the state's automated general ledger system (Cardinal)
Supporting the Operations Division through special projects designed to enhance and improve operational efficiencies and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Required

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
Demonstrated experience in providing technical assistance in accounting and/or financial policies and procedures with a strong attention to detail
Demonstrated experience with preparation, review, and analyzing financial transactions and reports
Demonstrated experience developing and applying policies and procedures
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a complex and fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical and personal computer skills
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, and with all levels of management and employees

Preferred

Considerable experience in financial statement preparation, preferably governmental statements
Considerable experience in a governmental accounting environment
Supervisory experience is a plus

Benefits

The Department of the Treasury telework policy allows for up to two days a week of telework, subject to the position requirements.
