Responsibilities
Lead the Digital Pre-Assembly 3 (Variation) deliverable for a given program and commodity and drive compliance to the requirements of the engineering gateways
Validate gap and flush nominal and tolerance requirements for new programs
Lead cross-functional team meetings to develop Locating and Assembly Strategies that meet program fit requirements
Create Pre-Print Drawings (PPD) that specify component and end-item Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Perform 2D RSS and 3D VSA studies to predict system variation capability for Appearance and Functional requirements
Analyze internal and external production data to leverage tolerance opportunities
Develop and implement dimensional enablers to resolve non-compliant DPA 3 requirements
Lead variation related issue resolution and escalation on forward models in management forums
Validate and sign External SCCAF documents at UPV2
Validate and sign released GD&T drawings, 3D PMI and CAD at P-Release
Benchmark external competitor dimensional strategies
Improve upon existing department processes, standards, and best practices
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Aerospace, or related engineering field
1 + year of professional engineering experience in an automotive environment (inclusive of long-term co-ops or internships) focusing on one of the following: Design & Release (D&R), Manufacturing/Tooling, Systems Engineering or Variation Analysis
Preferred
Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent
Familiarity with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) from coursework, projects, coops, or internships
Familiarity with 3D CAD tools (CATIA/3DX, NX, SolidWorks, or similar)
Experience with SPC and statistical methods (e.g., Minitab)
Understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, tooling, fixtures, and plant operations
Experience with APQP/PPAP, DFMEA/PFMEA and control plans
ASME Y14.5 2009 GDTP Certification
Comfortable with basic statistics and data analysis (using Excel, Minitab or similar)
Clear communication, curiosity, and a collaborative approach
