Assistant Grocery Manager

Tom Thumb Supermarket is seeking an Assistant Grocery Manager to enhance customer service and manage store operations in the absence of the Store Director. The role involves supervising employees, maintaining inventory standards, and ensuring effective merchandising and displays.

Responsibilities

Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly customer service
Assist customers by making appropriate product suggestions
Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques through telephone interactions, in‑store intercom announcements, and direct customer engagement
Answer and respond to incoming calls appropriately; resolve customer complaints and escalate to the Store Director when needed
Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director (see Store Director job description)
Assist with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes in line with company procedures and profitability goals
Monitor employee productivity to ensure standards are met
May schedule employees to ensure proper coverage and service levels
Build grocery displays, rotate inventory, and remove outdated or spoiled product; maintain cleanliness in all grocery department areas
Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays; assist with coordinating grocery sales promotions
Ensure merchandise is accurately priced, properly displayed, and shelves are clean and well‑maintained
Follow and enforce all department standards and requirements
Maintain knowledge of all duties performed by department employees (including opening/closing, dairy, and frozen)
Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees
Train employees in store policies, sales procedures, and record‑keeping practices
Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook
Ensure proper code dating for all products within the department
Prepare sales and inventory reports; participate in physical inventory every six months
Control inventory to ensure adequate quantity, quality, and freshness; stock and rotate products per division directives
Assist with ordering grocery products and maintaining inventory levels; supervise reclamation processing and uphold orderly conditions in the back room and all grocery areas
Control shrink and costs through proper handling, rotation, and loss‑prevention practices
Implement correct product preparation techniques
Operate related equipment safely, including pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines
