Responsibilities

Set editorial priorities for weekend coverage, identifying breaking news, developing stories, and planned assignments in line with newsroom strategy
Exercise editorial judgment to determine story importance, placement, and resource allocation
Oversee reporting, editing, and publication of weekend stories, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and balance
Lead breaking news coverage during weekends, making real-time editorial decisions and coordinating limited resources
Manage weekend reporters and editors by assigning stories, setting expectations, monitoring deadlines, and providing guidance
Monitor the news cycle to ensure timely updates and appropriate follow-through as stories evolve
Coordinate with senior editorial leadership and legal counsel, as needed, to assess legal, ethical, and reputational risk
Collaborate with homepage editors, audience teams, and producers to support effective story placement and continuity across newsroom operations
