Growth and Development Advisor
Northwestern Mutual is seeking a proactive and entrepreneurial Growth & Business Development Advisor to enhance firm expansion by recruiting talented advisors and attracting clients. This role involves generating leads, engaging clients, and delivering holistic financial planning while also mentoring new advisors to build their own practices.
Responsibilities
Generate, qualify, and nurture leads for prospective financial advisors
Conduct exploratory conversations and candidate assessments
Partner with leadership to onboard and support new advisors in their first 12-24 months
Build relationships with centers of influence (COIs) to expand recruiting channels
Develop and refine recruiting messaging and outreach processes
Identify, engage, and qualify prospective clients through network, events, outreach, and referrals
Conduct discovery meetings to understand financial goals and surface planning needs
Collaborate with senior advisors to design and present financial planning recommendations
Support exceptional client onboarding and engagement
With advisor licensing, deliver holistic financial planning based on client goals and firm methodology
Educate clients on financial planning, investment strategies, risk management, and long-term wealth goals
Maintain planning relationships as needed while growing the broader advisor team
Mentor and coach newly recruited advisors on best practices for business development and client service
Share playbooks, scripts, and systems that elevate team performance
Help scale repeatable processes for advisor onboarding, training, and retention
Qualification
Required
Experience in relationship-driven business development, recruiting, sales, or advisory work
Strong ability to initiate conversations and build long-term trust
Demonstrated long-term decision-making (not purely transactional)
Comfortable operating in ambiguous, build-as-you-go environments
High integrity and sound judgment in sensitive conversations
Willingness to obtain required licenses (Life & Health, FINRA Series as applicable)
Already licensed (or eager to obtain licenses) including Life, Health, and FINRA Series credentials
Preferred
Experience in financial services, wealth management, or insurance
Experience mentoring, coaching, or developing others
Track record of building or growing something over time (business, team, community)
Experience supporting career-changers or underrepresented talent
Interest in growing into team leadership or growth roles
