Associate Director of International Student Services

NAFSA: Association of International Educators is seeking an Associate Director of International Student Services at Slippery Rock University. The role involves leading a comprehensive retention program for international students and ensuring compliance with federal regulations related to immigration reporting.

Responsibilities

Serve as Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO) for all immigration reporting as it relates to F-1 and J-1 visa classifications in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
Ensure compliance with federal regulations including maintaining SEVIS certification, designations, and required annual reporting
Monitor SEVIS alerts and lists weekly and take appropriate actions
Provide immigration advisement for F-1 and J-1 exchange visitor programs, interface with governmental agencies as needed. E.g. Department of Homeland Security, etc
Guide international students in the application process and maintaining compliance with off-campus work authorization and serve as the point of contact for issues related to USCIS
Communicate with and provide transitional support for incoming international students from the time of deposit through pre-arrival preparation and arrival to campus. Continue support services through entire tenure as SRU students and new alumni
Plan and implement all new international student orientation programs for all degree and non-degree seeking students, which include academic, social, immigration, and consent guidance and information
Provide social, personal, and cultural advisement with referral to appropriate on- and off-campus resources as needed
Serve as the primary contact for international students during crises (e.g. life-threatening or mental health issues) and work collaboratively with appropriate on- and off-campus resources. In addition, work directly with the students' emergency contacts abroad in the case of emergencies
Coordinate initial academic advisement by connecting incoming international students with their faculty advisor and department chairperson
Coordinate transportation services for new international students upon arrival, as well as holidays and breaks as needed
Maintain up-to-date and relevant educational materials, such as an online International Student Guidebook, international student health insurance information, and other informational documents that support international student success
Remain up to date with developments in international education, including immigration legislation affecting students and visitors on various visa classification, interpretation and practice, and trends as outlined by Open Doors
Develop programs and opportunities that encourage and assist in the understanding of and adjustment to US culture and the US Higher Education system
Collaborate with OIE staff and campus partners to develop and implement cultural programming opportunities that allow US domestic students and international students to integrate over meaningful cross-cultural events
Participate in professional development opportunities and perform other duties as assigned by the director of the Office for Inclusive Excellence
