Principal Domain Architect - Data

The Principal Domain Architect – Data will act as a strategic partner in data architecture, providing oversight for high-impact programs, driving adherence to standards, and establishing target-state architecture for the data platform.

Responsibilities
Act as a strategic partner with Data Platform Product owners, Engineering leads, Program Leads, Domain Architects and Enterprise Architects and serve as a glue between technology strategy and platform engineering execution
Provide technical and architectural oversight for high-impact programs and major transformations; review designs and assess risks while governing the decisions in architecture review boards / forums
Drive adherence to platform capability mapping, standards, playbooks, and guardrails across engineering teams and standardize integration patterns across domains (including AI/ML)
Establish the target-state architecture and influence the multi‑year roadmap for the data platform, aligning it with enterprise goals
Assess vendor/platform fit (e.g., Snowflake vs. Databricks), total cost of ownership, and integration complexity; recommend decision trees
Guide and enforce consistent metadata, lineage, and governance models across all data producers and consumers
Define and enforce data exchange standards, contracts, principles and cross-domain integration patterns
Driving standardization in canonical models, standardized data pipeline patterns, and reusable components, while truly driving for Data platform as a service
Serve as a thought leader for bringing outside-in view for cloud hyper-scalers, industry patterns and modern data architectures
Qualification
Required
Legally authorized to work in the U.S
Commutable distance to Tampa, FL
8+ years of experience in Data architecture and engineering, distributed systems and/or platform architecture
Deep hands-on experience with modern cloud providers like AWS, Azure or GCP and modern platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, Azure data lake, Lakehouse architectures and Data lakes or equivalent
Deep knowledge about various distributed data storage formats like Iceberg, ORC, Parquet etc
Strong understanding of Data Engineering and Data Governance, Data Lineage and Privacy frameworks
Experience in providing clear guidance on data cataloging, metadata policies, adoption and frameworks
Ability to break / decouple data ecosystems into clear capabilities, standards and integration patterns
Prior experience in Platform Engineering and building horizontal shared or central capabilities
Preferred
Knowledge of AI/ML platform integration is a huge plus
