University Executive Director, The Center for Inclusivity and Equal Opportunity

The City University of New York (CUNY) is seeking an Executive Director for The Center for Inclusivity and Equal Opportunity, established to combat hate, discrimination, and harassment. The Executive Director will oversee compliance with civil rights laws and lead initiatives to foster a respectful and inclusive campus climate across all CUNY campuses.

Responsibilities

Oversight of CUNY’s Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation Report Processing System to ensure standards and consistency for complaint resolution across campuses
The Executive Director will oversee the structure, team, and process for the review of report system investigations conducted by individual campuses, which includes identifying if investigation findings implicate Title VI, Title VII, or Title IX
Oversee data analytics related to complaint reporting and resolutions
In partnership with the Office of the General Counsel and other relevant stakeholders, ensure systemwide compliance with related federal, state or city laws and regulations related to discrimination and harassment. This includes, but is not limited to, judgments, agreements, or recommendations with government agencies and offices
Review, update, and administer systemwide policies related to discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, including conduct falling under Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and related federal, state, and city civil rights laws, to ensure they reflect best practices
Oversight of related trainings for all relevant CUNY students, faculty, and staff; ensure trainings are conducted regularly and comprehensively across campuses. This includes, but is not limited to:
Annual orientation and training of all University personnel, including Chief Diversity Officers and their offices on how to properly conduct investigations
Onboarding training for all newly hired Chief Diversity Officers and their staff
Annual training for Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX officers and supporting staff
Annual training for the Chancellor’s cabinet and all Presidents and Deans on the University’s nondiscrimination and Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX policies
Develop and implement programming, education, and dialogue that fosters respectful discourse and promotes inclusivity, learning, and understanding
Collaborate with the CUNY communications department to ensure consistent messaging and information sharing about Center initiatives related to Center policies, procedures, and programming
Work with CUNY’s Office of Applied Research, Evaluation, and Data Analytics (OAREDA) issuing surveys on campus climate or other related topics
Hire, structure, and manage a team to fulfill the responsibilities and mission of the Center
Perform any other related duties enabling CUNY to create a safe and welcoming environment free from discrimination and harassment related to Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX at CUNY

Required

Minimum of a bachelor's degree
Eight years' related experience

Preferred

Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., Law, Human Resources, Education, Social Sciences)
Minimum of 10 years of experience in higher education administration or a related field
Proven experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion leadership roles
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws related to discrimination and harassment
Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
Experience in data analysis and using data to inform policy and practice
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle sensitive and complex issues with discretion
Experience effectively managing teams in a cross-functional environment
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment
Ability to develop and implement effective training and educational programs
