Responsibilities
Act as the primary expert for process improvement initiatives, controls system design, and critical troubleshooting related to automation and process controls
Take full ownership of all automation aspects of production, pilot, and lab equipment, ensuring robust and scalable control solutions
Develop and enhance programming across multiple control platforms, including:
PLC systems (Siemens preferred)
Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) environments
Laboratory control systems such as LabVIEW
Support and modify existing applications written in Python and C++, ensuring seamless integration with automated systems
Architect and build SCADA and MES systems—especially leveraging Inductive Automation’s Ignition Platform—to collect, visualize, and monitor both lab and production process data
Develop and execute plans for new control system hardware/software implementations, ensuring system robustness and scalability
Review and support the design of controls cabinets, wiring documentation, and system layouts for new or upgraded applications
Improve operational efficiency through strategic automation upgrades and controls improvements
Partner with Product Engineering to develop test programs, data acquisition systems, and lab automation strategies
Work hands-on to validate process improvements, troubleshoot issues, and ensure systems reliability
Generate, maintain, and communicate thorough documentation of the process development cycle
Provide training and clear guidance to engineering, operations, and cross-functional partners
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
3+ years of hands-on automation experience in manufacturing or process development environments
Proficiency with scripted languages (Python strongly preferred)
Strong understanding of network communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus
Proficiency with PLC hardware/software, including ladder logic and structured text (Siemens preferred)
Experience with panel building, field wiring, and industrial instrumentation, particularly in chemical manufacturing
Familiarity with database query languages (MSSQL, Postgres) and database management
Ability to configure and develop HMI/Operator Interfaces, including Ignition Perspective
Preferred
Experience with Ignition SCADA is strongly preferred
