The Civil Engineer in Training (EIT) will engage in the full lifecycle of civil and infrastructure projects, supporting licensed engineers and cross-disciplinary teams in various tasks including design, permitting, and construction oversight.

Responsibilities

Prepare and refine engineering drawings, plans, and technical documentation using CAD and related software on various civil engineering projects such as airports, roads, site design, utilities, and H&H
Conduct field investigations and site condition assessments to support project design and construction
Compile survey data, geotechnical findings, and materials information to inform engineering solutions
Assist in developing specifications, bid documents, and cost estimates for infrastructure projects
Support project scheduling, budgeting, and documentation
Participate in safety planning, quality reviews, and compliance checks throughout project phases
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to ensure project alignment
Contribute to post-construction evaluations to assess performance and capture lessons learned
Other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and EIT (FE) certification required
Minimum 3 years engineering experience in general civil engineering design
Experience in roadway and/or site civil studies and designs is desired
Construction administration on similar projects is a plus
Experience using AutoCAD (preferably Civil 3D) to prepare plans
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Technical writing and strong communication skills (both oral and written) required
Must be willing to travel since most of our projects are off the road system
A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy

Preferred

Experience with Alaska Department of Transportation projects is preferred
Experience with design in northern climates is preferred
