NCDOT Technical Services/Photogrammetry Unit Intern

The N.C. Department of Information Technology is seeking a Technical Services/Photogrammetry Unit Intern to assist with geospatial data organization, analysis, and mapping tasks. This internship provides hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and supports North Carolina's transportation initiatives through advanced geospatial and photogrammetric technologies.

Responsibilities

Create, organize, and manage historical NCDOT aerial photography boundary data using Bentley MicroStation and ArcGIS
Assist with the preparation of orthorectified digital mosaics and other geospatial mapping products
Update and maintain the Photogrammetry Unit’s geospatial data holdings and digital image library of historical imagery
Complete a small photogrammetric project from planning through final delivery, performing all associated tasks
Conduct visual quality reviews of imagery tiles, including support for projects
Learn how final mapping files are reviewed and validated prior to delivery

Required

Must be a currently enrolled full-time student in a bachelors, masters, or professional level program at an accredited or recently graduated from a North Carolina Historically Black College/University (HBCU) or Minority Serving Institution (MSI) within the past year
24 credit hours completed
Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 (on 4.0 scale)
Has legal right to work in the U.S. and do not need sponsorship

Preferred

Pursuing a degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Earth Science, or Geospatial Science
Familiarity with or interest in Bentley MicroStation, ArcGIS, photogrammetric tools, and geospatial technologies
General computer skills with the ability to learn specialized mapping and engineering software
Detail-oriented with a strong willingness to learn new technical concepts and workflows
Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
