Agency Safety Consultant

The NC State Highway Patrol is seeking an enthusiastic team member to join their Personnel Unit as an Agency Safety Consultant. This role serves as the subject matter expert for workplace safety and occupational health programs, partnering with leadership and operational units to promote safety and reduce workplace hazards.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and evaluate agency-wide safety and occupational health programs
Conduct workplace safety inspections, risk assessments, and hazard analyses; recommend corrective actions
Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents; prepare reports and track corrective actions
Ensure compliance with OSHA, state safety regulations, and internal policies
Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and supervisors
Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies, safety committees, and external partners
Analyze safety data and trends to identify risk areas and recommend preventive strategies
Assist with emergency preparedness planning and response activities
Maintain accurate safety documentation, records, and reports

Required

Bachelor's degree with a major in safety engineering, industrial engineering, industrial management or technology, occupational safety, or one of the physical sciences
an equivalent technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of three years of progressive occupational and safety and health experience
an equivalent combination of education and experience
Considerable working knowledge of federal, state, and agency regulations, principles and practices, including OSHA standards regulations and workplace safety standards
Ability to conduct safety inspections and accident investigations
Ability to inspect and ensure fire detection equipment is properly working
Ability to plan and direct an agency-wide safety program
Ability to develop and deliver training to diverse audiences
