The Texas Department of Public Safety is seeking a Fixed Assets Accountant I to perform entry level accounting, inventory, and clerical work. This role involves data collection, recording, and documentation support, as well as maintaining inventory databases and assisting with financial statements.

Responsibilities
Prepare and post accounting transactions to various systems and maintain files of applicable source documents pending verification of entries or closure of transactions
Conduct inventory of stock and review inventory control records and reports
Compile and maintain various inventory databases, tracking systems, logs, transactions, and records
Dispose of surplus inventory and ensure proper documentation and policies are followed
Maintain accounting records or purchases, assign inventory numbers to items, and maintain inventory and stock control records
Reconcile various reports, statements, and tabulations with their applicable source documents by identifying individual discrepancies and researching data sources to rectify errors, enter omissions, or make judgments
Prepare data summaries for accountant’s use during reconciling and in preparing annual financial statements
Participate with accountants in reconciling various journal entries in collecting, tabulating, and calculating data for inclusion in annual financial statements
Audit and proof assigned registers, vouchers, and related documents to verify accuracy of entries, calculations, totals, and completeness prior to or after posting to action or archival records
Provide information on inventory processes and procedures to customers
May train, guide, and monitor the work of custodians and/or temporary contract employees
May maintain total books (revenues, disbursements, all transactions and periodic reports) for employee groups that maintain small or transient cash balances
Will require significant travel within assigned region(s) and may require occasional overnight stay to include weekends and/or evenings
Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent
Two (2) or more years of work experience in general office work; inventory control, bookkeeping, or accounting operations experience is preferred
If driving is required, must possess a valid driver license from state of residence
Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to Inventory Control processes, TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures
Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers
Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism
Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals
Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information, and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner
Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems
Appropriate levels of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems
Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information
Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices
Availability for after-hour and weekend work may be required
