Seasonal Laborer (Building Utilities & Trails)
New River Gorge National Park and Preserve is seeking Seasonal Laborers to assist with building utilities and trail maintenance. The role involves performing various physical tasks related to trail construction and maintenance, as well as maintaining park facilities and grounds.

Responsibilities
Performs all aspects of trail maintenance and construction as assigned by the trails maintenance work leader, or designee. Examples of the work performed include: clears brush and fallen logs from trail corridor; cleans, repairs, and constructs log or rock drains; installs log or rock retainer bars/steps and checks and/or constructs foot and stock bridges from native materials; constructs and maintains trail structures such as turnpikes, causeways, cribbing trail tread, riprap and rock retaining walls; constructs new segments of trail; and performs rehabilitation and meadow restoration on abandoned or heavily impacted sections of trail
Uses shovels, picks, rakes, axes, pulaskis, and various types of saws (e.g., McLeod's crosscut, pole, bow, etc.), boppers, chisels, sledgehammers, single jacks, rock bars, draw knives, measuring tapes, levels, squares, scribes, gasoline-powered jackhammers and rock drills, chainsaws, and other trade tools when performing trail maintenance and construction duties
Maintains the tools and equipment used in safe operating condition. Ensures work is performed safely and within prescribed NPS standards
Operates heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers, portable snow blowers, and all types of hand tools (such as shovels rakes, lawn edging equipment, etc.), to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc
Loads and unloads supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, etc. Moves furniture, removes and sets signs, paints picnic tables and signs, rakes and waters lawns, trims trees and shrubbery, picks up litter, and cleans fire pits
Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where soil is hard and compact and must grade or slope; occasionally breaks up pavement, soil, or concrete; mixes and pours concrete, asphalt, and hot/cold mix; fills and levels holes in damaged roads. Moves heavily loaded wheelbarrows and hand trucks; uses heavy type power mowers including adjusting blades, cleaning and oiling. Cuts heavy trees with axe or chainsaw; stacks heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement, etc., or performs other duties requiring similar judgment and comparable physical effort
Performs janitorial duties for buildings in the absence of janitor and as back-up support

Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided
WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT: Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program
