Project Accountant

The Project Accountant supports financial management for large-scale construction projects, focusing on job cost accounting, cost control, and financial reporting, while collaborating closely with Project Management and Operations teams.

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate job cost records for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and indirect costs
Ensure all costs are properly coded to jobs, cost codes, phases, and cost types in the ERP system
Reconcile job cost detail to the general ledger and resolve posting discrepancies
Review and validate cost allocations, accruals, and cost transfers
Support month-end close activities related to project cost and WIP
Track actual costs against project budgets and GMP / not-to-exceed limits
Assist with forecast-to-complete updates and variance analysis
Identify cost overruns, unposted commitments, and potential exposure items
Support change order cost tracking and budget revisions
Prepare cost-plus owner billings with supporting documentation
Reconcile billed vs. incurred costs and track retainage
Assist with WIP schedules and revenue recognition support
Ensure billing and cost data align between ERP and project management systems
Maintain organized, audit-ready project cost files
Support data integrity between ERP (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Intacct, NetSuite, Acumatica) and Procore or similar systems
Assist with internal and external audit requests related to project costs

Required

3+ years of experience in construction project accounting or job cost accounting
Strong understanding of job cost structures, WIP, and cost-plus billing
Experience with construction ERP systems and cost modules
Solid Excel skills for reconciliations, cost analysis, and schedules
High attention to detail and strong reconciliation discipline
Ability to work closely with Project Managers and Operations teams

Preferred

Experience with Cost-Plus or GMP contracts
Exposure to large commercial, industrial, or mission-critical projects
Experience using Procore or similar project management platforms
