Senior Trains Control Engineer, Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers
Kiewit is a leading infrastructure engineering company seeking a Senior Train Control Systems Engineer to join their Rail and Systems Group. The role involves overseeing train control system design engineering activities, coordinating interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring project criteria and industry standards are met.

Responsibilities
Oversee, advise and support train control system design engineering related activities in multiple phases
Develop the scope of work for train control system engineering tasks, design schedules and budgets for assigned project elements; monitor progress against schedule and budget requirements; and identify and document changes in scope
Assist in determining the applicable scope of work for procurement of materials and equipment, procurement schedules and budgets for assigned project buy outs; monitor progress to maintain those procurements; and interface with procurement and subcontract personnel to facilitate the bid process
Coordinate work among engineers and other interdisciplinary technical personnel on the project
Coordinate the assignment of personnel from other technical support groups within the company
Provide leadership in planning, directing, supervising, and controlling the execution of technical, and administrative functions of the project or study
Assist in determining the technical skills and staff hours required for successful completion of the project
Ensure client criteria and scope is met and that the industry’s standard and recommended practice is followed
Prepare technical reports and documentation of activity for the client and project management
Ability to select technology, devices, equipment and/or components to meet performance requirements
Assess and manage potential outside design consultants
Provide guidance for teaming / subcontracting arrangements as well as evaluate estimated design costs
Qualification
Required
Minimum 15 years of progressive work experience and thorough understanding of train control system design, construction, testing and commissioning
Minimum 15 years of progressive work experience and thorough understanding of train control system maintenance
Minimum 15 years of progressive work experience and thorough understanding of project engineering
Minimum 15 years of progressive work experience and thorough understanding of rail and transit operation
Minimum 15 years of progressive work experience and thorough understanding of design standards and safety regulations
Minimum 15 years of progressive work experience and thorough understanding of basic to intermediate understanding of other subsystems such as communications, supervisory control/ SCADA, traction power, tunnel ventilation, on-board, and auxiliary electrical systems
Minimum 15 years of progressive work experience and thorough understanding of intermediate to advanced understanding of on-board/ wayside interface
Minimum 15 years of progressive work experience and thorough understanding of intermediate to advanced understanding of train control technologies such as Automatic Train Control (ATC), Positive Train Control (PTC), and Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC)
Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience
Ability to travel as business requires
Regular, reliable attendance
Work productively and meet deadlines timely
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required
Preferred
Professional Engineer license is desirable
Membership with active participation to professional organizations such as AREMA or APTA is desirable
