Machinist Technician

MSHS Pacific Power Group is seeking a highly skilled Machinist who thrives in a technically structured, hands-on environment. The role involves performing precision machining, reconditioning, and fabrication of engine and mechanical components while ensuring adherence to specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

Perform precision machining, reconditioning, and fabrication of engine and mechanical components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and MSHS ISO standards
Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools including lathes, vertical/horizontal/universal milling machines, drill presses, and surface grinders
Calculate and hold tight tolerances (±0.01 mm) using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators
Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering documentation to determine machining methods and sequences
Manufacture and modify specialized tooling to support unique machining applications
Inspect completed components for accuracy, defects, and conformance to specifications
Monitor feed rates, speeds, and machining conditions to ensure quality and consistency
Perform metalizing, valve seat work, honing, hardness testing, magnaflux, and dye penetrant inspections as required
Support occasional off-site or onboard machining work using portable shop equipment
Maintain machine shop equipment, tooling, and work areas in proper operating condition
Complete required measurement sheets, inspection documentation, and technical records accurately and on time
Work extended hours or overtime as needed to support operational demands

Required

Minimum 3 years of machining experience or closely related field
High school diploma or equivalent required
Advanced ability to read and interpret technical drawings in standard and metric measurements
Strong understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems, engines, auxiliary systems, and related equipment
Proficiency in operating machine shop equipment safely and effectively
Knowledge of welding, brazing, and metalizing processes
Expert-level use of precision measurement tools and inspection methods
Ability to fabricate and modify tooling to meet specialized job requirements
Working knowledge of basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, internet)
Strong mathematical ability, including metric and standard tolerances
Logical problem-solving skills and technical reasoning
Ability to read, write, and comprehend technical documentation in English
Dependable, self-directed, and able to work with minimal supervision
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand for extended periods and work in physically demanding positions (kneeling, stooping, twisting)
Willingness to work in confined or uncomfortable spaces
Ability to work outdoors and onboard vessels as required

Preferred

Technical or vocational training in machining preferred
