Environmental Analyst
Pima County is seeking an Environmental Analyst to serve as an environmental data analyst and coordinator in matters relating to environmental policy and regulatory compliance. The role involves analyzing regulations, developing departmental permit applications, and providing information to the public regarding environmental quality.

Responsibilities
Collects, compiles, classifies and analyzes data related to environmental research and compliance activities
Performs technical work in repair, maintenance, installation, calibration, modification, and quality control checks of field environmental instrumentation
Reviews and analyzes local, state and federal laws, regulations and proposals, and assists management in developing departmental comments on proposed regulations
Designs environmental quality data collection systems and specialized environmental quality control methods, using computer automated systems, databases and research techniques
Assists management and engineering staff in writing critiques and recommendations on specific environmental projects and plans, determines cost and impact of implementation
Prepares written reports and correlates resulting scientific data for use in the development of environmental quality control strategies
Recommends and initiates planning activities, data requests and data analysis methods for compliance related purposes
Provides information to the public and news media concerning environmental quality including the interpretation of scientific data and trends in pollution control or forecasting
Interprets county ordinances, state and federal laws, rules and regulations affecting environmental quality
Advises and consults with management, public officials, vendors, professional, civic and other groups, organizations and individuals in the area of specialization
May participate in the development of department policy and procedures
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an environmental science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, biochemistry, bio systems analysis, or a closely related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment
One year of technical experience in wastewater, water treatment, drinking water, groundwater, surface water, air quality control, solid waste, hazardous waste, sustainability or general environmental management
Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted
One year with Pima County in an Environmental Health Specialist I or related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment
Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the 'Education' and 'Work Experience' sections of the application
Valid driver license is required at time of application
Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment
The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures
Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination
Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record
The County requires pre-employment background checks
Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history
Preferred
Experience with/knowledge of operation and maintenance of air monitoring data collection and validation tools
Experience with/knowledge of the installation, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of scientific, laboratory or industrial process control, sound, light or communications instrumentation or equipment
Experience conducting site maintenance; brush trimming, painting, digging drainages, etc
Experience in using Excel and Word to generate documents and analyze data
Experience with/knowledge of testing and analysis of scientific data and sample collection
