The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is seeking a high-energy, strategic, and community-minded Editor to lead their newsroom at QCity Metro. The role involves curating impactful content, directing a team of reporters, and managing the daily newsletter to connect with the Black community in Charlotte.

Responsibilities
Editorial Leadership: Direct reporters on story assignments, determining what we cover (and what we don't) to ensure we stay true to our mission
Newsletter Curation: Produce and manage the daily newsletter, ensuring it is a 'must-read' for Charlotte’s Black community
Audience Growth: Use metrics and analytics to understand our audience personas and make data-driven decisions that grow our readership
Vision & Innovation: Bring fresh ideas to the table. We want someone with a vision for the future of QCity Metro and the courage to try new ways of storytelling
Quality Control: Ensure all content meets professional standards, adhering to AP Style and SEO best practices
Qualification
Required
Proficiency in Content Management Systems (CMS)
AP Style
SEO
Newsletter-delivery systems
Comfortable using data (Google Analytics, newsletter metrics, etc.) to inform editorial strategy
Competent leader ready to mentor reporters and take ownership of a digital newsroom
Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, (non-micro-managed) environment
Have a 'fail fast, learn fast' mentality
Curious, empathetic and deeply invested in the growth of Black media
Read constantly
Preferred
Proven background in reporting is preferred
Previous editing experience is strongly preferred
A familiarity with the Charlotte area and a genuine passion for the issues and culture affecting Black Charlotteans
