Photonics Fabrication Process Engineer
Lumina Corp is building a visible-light photonic integrated circuit (PIC) platform, bringing high-performance modulators and related devices from lab to product. They are seeking a Photonics Fabrication Process Engineer who can turn device concepts into repeatable, high-yield fabrication flows and continuously improve them.
Responsibilities
Develop, own, and improve end-to-end photonics process flows (process integration, recipe development, yield improvement)
Run and refine core cleanroom steps (as applicable): lithography (photo/e-beam), etch (RIE/ICP), deposition (PECVD/Thermal Evap), lift-off, cleaning, anneals
Establish robust process windows , controls, and documentation
Drive metrology + feedback loops (profilometry/ellipsometry/SEM/AFM/optical inspection, etc.) to correlate process → device performance
Collaborate across fabrication, design, and characterization to improve performance, repeatability, and manufacturability
Qualification
Required
A Masters, or PhD in Physics, Engineering, or equivalent
2+ years hands-on semiconductor/photonics fabrication process experience (industry, lab, or foundry)
Strong fundamentals in process engineering: process control, recipe development, documentation discipline
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex process issues end-to-end
Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with high ownership
Preferred
PIC experience (waveguides, modulators, resonators) and/or thin-film electro-optic materials (e.g., lithium niobate)
Experience with ICP etching, hard masks, deep etch, sidewall control, low-loss photonics processes
Familiarity with packaging constraints / handoff to foundry flows
Experience scaling from prototype to small-batch manufacturing
