Responsibilities
Maximize speed of iteration by breaking data solutions into small, adaptable, reusable deliverables
Design and implement your squad’s data strategy to support machine-learning-based algorithms
Deliver high-fidelity data products that enable algorithms to learn from prior decisions and predictions
Provide data that enables personalized intent detection and conversational context
Harvest and analyze data to understand what content resonates with individuals
Experiment with delivery methods and optimize personalization and effectiveness
Engineer recommendation systems that maximize engagement and support meaningful behavioral change
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and evolve metrics that track algorithm effectiveness over time
Drive strategic adoption of GCP-native services (Dataform, BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Pub/Sub) to reduce complexity, improve cost efficiency, and accelerate delivery
Qualification
Required
8+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a related field
Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and guide data architecture decisions within a squad
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and collaborating to define clear paths forward
Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
Expert-level proficiency in Python and SQL for scalable data transformation and analysis
Proven experience designing, building, and operating data products (not just pipelines)
Strong background in architecting data storage strategies using transactional systems, ODS, and analytical data warehouses, with a primary focus on BigQuery
Deep hands-on experience integrating BigQuery with PostgreSQL-based systems (e.g., AlloyDB, Cloud SQL)
Experience modernizing legacy data assets and optimizing high-performance SQL and procedural logic
Extensive experience designing ingestion and CDC strategies using Pub/Sub and Datastream
Deep expertise across the GCP data ecosystem, including Dataform, Cloud Composer (Airflow), and Cloud Dataflow (Apache Beam)
Experience applying data governance, quality, and discovery practices across squad-owned data products
Proven ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and data science teams in fast-paced environments
Highly motivated, organized, and capable of influencing technical direction while building strong partnerships
