Responsibilities

Provide control and maintenance of the technical baseline of the facility equipment
Ensure facility system configuration is effectively managed using a risk-based graded approach
Follow the LANL Conduct of Engineering (CoE) Program in support of facility modifications and facility configuration management in accordance with LANL standards and procedures
Serve as a subject matter expert on assigned facilities
Provide technical interface to existing facility systems and components
Adhere to LANL architectural policies, programs, standards, and practices
Consult with customers to determine functional and spatial requirements for new structures or renovations
Provide architectural programming expertise in support of institutional project, infrastructure, and facility planning
Plan layout of projects and integrate architectural elements into unified designs
Prepare scale drawings and other bid and contract documents
Conduct observations of work during construction to monitor compliance with contract drawings and specifications
Research, assemble, and/or evaluate complex information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting architecture policies or programs; recommend sound, practical solutions to complex issues
Understand and adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to architectural design and execution
Direct concise studies on complex subjects for management; identify problem areas, investigate alternative solutions, determine cost implications, and recommend solutions
Provide counsel, advice, and assistance to management on matters dealing with government legislation and DOE contract compliance relating to project initiation to ensure compliance
Ensure proper communication to employees and other organizations on the implementation of project initiation policies, procedure and practices
Define and recommend organizational objectives, develop specific short-term and long-range plans, and monitor progress to assure work objectives are attained and schedules are met

Required

Experience defining maintenance requirements involving corrective maintenance; tracking and trending system performance; reviewing design outputs for impact to technical baseline and master equipment lists; coordinating with Pressure Safety Officer (PSO) on facility pressure safety systems
Preparation of design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time data; application of broad-based architecture understanding and skills in complex urban, land, and facility use planning; demonstrated use of computer-assisted architectural drawing and design software
Experience leading projects or teams in support of meeting mission deliverables, assuring all results, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements
Expert knowledge and experience in architectural consulting, design, and construction management
Extensive experience in public or private long-range strategic and tactical business planning
Demonstrated ability to lead design teams and interpret architectural documents - drawings, specifications, and schematics
Expert knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, building codes, and OSHA standards
Expert ability in technical leadership and program management skills
Extensive skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting architectural design
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of architecture to both technical and non-technical personnel
Expert skill in the preparation and presentation of architectural reports and support documents
Expert Knowledge of the Laboratory's architectural policies, practices, standards, and procedures
Expert knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting architectural design
